Who we are

1sts (Firsts Events) is run by Gemini Global LLC in Dallas, Texas. We put on speed dating, networking nights, game nights and socials, and this site sells the tickets and handles what happens afterwards. If anything here is unclear, write to hello@1sts.events and a person will answer.

What we collect, and why

Your account. Your email address, so we can sign you in and send you your results. Your first name, because that is all anyone at a night gets called. Your age, because every night is for adults, and it is shown to people you meet. Whether you are a man or a woman, because speed dating seats men opposite women and we cannot do that without knowing. A short bio and up to two photos if you want them; plenty of people leave both blank, and that is fine.

When you sign in. The time, your IP address and the kind of browser you used. We keep these so we can spot someone misusing an account and so we can tell you if something looks wrong.

When you buy a ticket. The amount, which night it was for, and an order reference from Square. Your card details never reach us. Square takes the payment and holds those under Square’s own privacy policy.

At the night. Whether you typed the night’s check-in code. Who you picked, and what you said about them: Like or No thanks at speed dating; Professional, Friend, Date or No thanks at other nights.

Emails we send you. We keep a copy of every email we send, so we can see what you were told if something goes wrong.

That is the whole list. We do not buy information about you from anyone, and we do not add to it from other sources.

Who sees what: the guest list

From 10 minutes before a night starts until the results go out, the other people on the list for that same night can see your first name, age, bio, photos and table number. At speed dating, only people of the other gender see you. Before that window opens, nobody on the list can see anyone. People who are not on the list for that night never see it at all. It is never public and never shows up in a search engine.

After a night, everyone you picked who also picked you stays in the Your firsts page of your account, with the night you met them and their email address. Nobody else appears there. Only you can see your own Your firsts page.

Your email address, and exactly when it is shared

This is the part that matters most, so here it is precisely. After picks lock at midnight on the night of an event:

• Your email is shared with someone only if you both picked each other. You chose them (Like at speed dating; Professional, Friend or Date at other nights), and they chose you. Then, and only then, you each get the other’s address.
• If only one of you picked the other, nothing is shared. Not your email, not theirs, and neither of you is told the pick ever happened.
• No thanks never shares anything, whatever the other person chose.
• Nobody is ever told who picked them unless they picked that person too, and nobody is ever told that someone did not pick them. There is no such thing as a rejection notice here.

Put another way: your email only ever goes to someone who chose you and whom you chose. If you would rather it never went anywhere, pick nobody. Once an email has been sent to someone, we cannot get it back from their inbox, so pick with that in mind.

Emails from us

We email you about nights you are part of, and nothing else: a link when you sign in, a confirmation when you get a ticket, a reminder the day before and a couple of hours before, and your results after. We do not send newsletters or promotions, and we do not give your address to anyone to send you theirs.

Cookies

Two, both set by us. sid keeps you signed in for thirty days. flash lasts sixty seconds and carries a one-line message, such as “Profile saved”, from one page to the next. There are no analytics cookies, no advertising cookies and no third-party cookies of any kind. We do not run any tracking scripts.

Where it is kept

Your account, tickets, picks and results are stored with Cloudflare, in the United States. Photos are stored with Cloudflare too. Emails are sent through Cloudflare. Payments are taken by Square. Those are the only companies that handle your information on our behalf, and each of them handles it only to do the job just described.

How long we keep it

Your account, until you ask us to delete it. Your picks and results, for as long as you have an account, so that Your firsts keeps working. Sign-in links expire twenty minutes after we send them, and used ones are removed. A sign-in session lasts thirty days. Photos you remove from your profile are deleted from storage straight away.

Your choices

You can change your name, age, bio and photos on your profile whenever you like, and take photos down whenever you like. You can leave a night up until 10 minutes before it starts. You can decline to pick anyone, and nothing about you goes anywhere.

To delete your account, email hello@1sts.events from the address on the account. We remove your account, your photos, your picks and your tickets. Two things we cannot undo: emails that have already been sent to other people, and payments that have already been taken, which are handled under the refund policy. We answer within thirty days, and usually within a day or two.

You can also email us to ask what we hold about you, and to have anything wrong put right.

Under 18s

Every night we run is for adults, and you have to be 18 or over to have an account. If we find an account belonging to someone under 18, we close it.

Changes

If we change this page we will update the date at the top. If the change matters to you, for instance if we ever wanted to share information in a way not described here, we will email you before it takes effect.
